Asharami Synergy Limited, a foremost Sahara Group Downstream Company has held a Speed Mentoring and Career Talk Session aimed at equipping young girls with the knowledge, confidence, and partnerships they need to pursue careers in energy and other sectors.
Hosted in celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, at Asharami Synergy’s head office in Ijora, Lagos, the session brought together accomplished professionals and female students from Rainbow College, fostering meaningful conversations on leadership, career development, and overcoming workplace barriers. This initiative aligns with Sahara Group’s commitment to Making A Difference, ensuring that young talents—regardless of gender—have the tools they need to succeed.
The global energy sector remains male-dominated, with women comprising less than 25% of the workforce, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). As a leading downstream oil and gas company, Asharami Synergy is actively working to bridge this gap by championing gender inclusion—not only by fostering workplace diversity but also by empowering the next generation of female professionals through mentorship, leadership development, and career advancement initiatives.
Reaffirming the company’s commitment to gender equity, Nomnso Dike, CEO of Asharami Synergy, said, "At Asharami Synergy, we believe in breaking barriers and building bridges for women in the energy sector. Our commitment extends beyond the International Women’s Day - we are actively creating opportunities for mentorship, leadership development, and career growth in an environment where women can thrive and lead."
Beyond this mentoring initiative, Sahara Group has consistently championed gender inclusion through various programs, including leadership training, learning and development programs, equal opportunity recruitment, and internal mentorship initiatives. Women within the organization have benefited from sundry career growth opportunities, equipping them to take on leadership roles in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
Reinforcing the impact of mentorship, Eniola Folami, Head of Commercial at Asharami Synergy, shared:
"Mentorship is a powerful tool that transforms careers. By providing young girls with direct access to experienced professionals, we are planting seeds of confidence and ambition that will shape the future of women in the energy sector, and indeed, women across all current and future work expressions."
The event also featured insights from Omotayo Aribisala, Risk and Compliance Supervisor at Asharami Synergy, who spoke on the importance of balancing career aspirations with personal development. She emphasized that managing one’s reputation, relationships, mental and financial health is crucial for long-term career success.
The participants described the sessions as “inspiring and engaging”, adding that they would apply lessons garnered as they prepare for career choices. According to Adeyoyinsola Adeyemo, she had uncertainties about handling certain friendship challenges, but after speaking with the mentors, she now had a clearer perspective on how to address them. Similarly, Temitope Opadele mentioned that she would be more intentional about selecting the qualities to emulate from her role model, realizing that she should focus only on those that align with her goals.
The session concluded with words of encouragement and affirmations, reinforcing the Accelerate Action theme and the shared responsibility to empower young women for a brighter future. The key message was clear: empowering young women today ensures a more inclusive, innovative, and prosperous tomorrow.
